United Nations air services have been suspended in Nigeria’s north east. This followed an attack on one of its helicopters in Damasak, Borno State by terrorist group. The helicopter had planned to pick some aid workers in Damasak to Maiduguri weekend when it aborted its plan as it was shot at by some members of Boko Haram. Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo will self-isolate for 14 days on the advice of doctors after a person in his close circle tested positive for coronavirus, the government said in a statement late on Saturday. “He has, as at today, tested negative, but has elected to take this measure out of the abundance of caution,” the statement said, adding that the president will continue to work during the period, in compliance with Covid-19 safety protocols. Federal government has released $311 million Abacha loot to Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) to fund its activities. Managing Director of NSIA, Mr Uche Orji, made this disclosure at a virtual meeting with the press to discuss the authority’s 2019 financial statement. According to Orji, “federal government has transmitted the $311 million Abacha loot to NSIA. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Friday suspended First Class Emir of Misau, Mr Ahmed Suleiman, and two other traditional rulers over a land crisis between farmers and Fulani herders in the area. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, yesterday announced gradual re-opening of schools from August 3, directing students in transitional classes, who have mandatory public exams ahead of them, to resume for revision classes and their examination. The governor said the schools’ re-opening must follow established public health guidelines and protocol in the State. Two persons were Friday night confirmed dead and two others missing after a 14-passenger boat capsized in Lagos. It was gathered that the boat which left Ebute-Ero for Ikorodu around 8pm, upturned shortly after it took off, throwing all passengers into the water.
