Buhari commends Nigerian student in Japan for returning missing money

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended a Nigerian doctorate student in University of Tsukuba, Japan, Mr Ikenna Nweke, who returned a missing wallet with huge sums of money to the police, and also turned down offer of a percentage by the authorities. UN suspends air services in north east over attack on helicopter by Boko Haram

United Nations air services have been suspended in Nigeria’s north east. This followed an attack on one of its helicopters in Damasak, Borno State by terrorist group. The helicopter had planned to pick some aid workers in Damasak to Maiduguri weekend when it aborted its plan as it was shot at by some members of Boko Haram. Federal Government will meet with states on Tuesday to discuss modalities for the safe reopening of primary and secondary schools, reporters have learnt. Ghana's president self-isolates after close person tests positive for coronavirus

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo will self-isolate for 14 days on the advice of doctors after a person in his close circle tested positive for coronavirus, the government said in a statement late on Saturday. “He has, as at today, tested negative, but has elected to take this measure out of the abundance of caution,” the statement said, adding that the president will continue to work during the period, in compliance with Covid-19 safety protocols. FG gives $311m Abacha loot to Investment Authority

Federal government has released $311 million Abacha loot to Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) to fund its activities. Managing Director of NSIA, Mr Uche Orji, made this disclosure at a virtual meeting with the press to discuss the authority’s 2019 financial statement. According to Orji, “federal government has transmitted the $311 million Abacha loot to NSIA. Bauchi gov suspends Emir, two others over land matters

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Friday suspended First Class Emir of Misau, Mr Ahmed Suleiman, and two other traditional rulers over a land crisis between farmers and Fulani herders in the area. Lagos announces new dates for schools' re-opening

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, yesterday announced gradual re-opening of schools from August 3, directing students in transitional classes, who have mandatory public exams ahead of them, to resume for revision classes and their examination. Two killed, others missing as boat capsizes in Lagos

Two persons were Friday night confirmed dead and two others missing after a 14-passenger boat capsized in Lagos. It was gathered that the boat which left Ebute-Ero for Ikorodu around 8pm, upturned shortly after it took off, throwing all passengers into the water. Iran threatens retaliation after what it calls possible cyber attack on nuclear site

Aid ship declares emergency after 6 migrants attempted suicide in Mediterranean sea

Nigeria’s debt rose N410bn monthly in Q1, 2020 - Debt Office

Total public debt portfolio of Nigeria has risen to N28.63tn, Debt Management Office announced on Thursday. In its Public Debt Portfolio report released on Thursday night, DMO explained that the country’s total debt rose from N27.4tn recorded in December 2019 to N28.63tn in March 2020. This indicates that within a space of three months, the country’s public debt portfolio grew by N1.23tn, representing 4.48 per cent. This translates to about N410 billion monthly.
