Soyinka shows up in court for Sowore’s trial

Nobel Laureate, Mr Wole Soyinka, and a former senator, Shehu Sani, were at the Federal High Court in Abuja Monday to observe the trial of an activist, Mr Omoyele Sowore. A former chairman of Nigeria’s human rights commission, Mr Chidi Odinkalu, was also in court for the trial. Soyinka arrived at about 8:50 a.m., five minutes after Mr Sowore arrived at the court. Highlife maestro Victor Olaiya is dead

Iconic Nigerian highlife musician, Mr Victor Olaiya, is dead He died at Lagos University Teaching Hospital at exactly 12 noon on Wednesday. He was 89. Mrs Bimbo Esho, managing director of Evergreen Music Company Ltd broke the news on Facebook. Mrs Esho, who is the daughter of highlife music enthusiast, Femi Esho, wrote, “We pray that the Doyen of highlife music find repose with the creator while wishing the family and entire music community the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
