Saudi Arabia's defence ministry has shown off what it says is wreckage of drones and cruise missiles that proves Iranian involvement in weekend attacks on two oil facilities. It said 18 drones and seven cruise missiles were fired from a direction that ruled out Yemen as a source. Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels have said they are behind the attacks. Iran has denied any involvement and warned it would retaliate against any attack that targeted it. US has stood by its accusation that Iran was behind the attacks. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said after arriving in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday…

President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has however delivered a message of apology, through his special envoy, Minister Jeffrey Radebe, to the Ghanaian government. He apologised to the president and people of Ghana for the recent xenophobic attacks that occurred in South Africa. President Muhammadu Buhari has directed Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to, henceforth, seek presidential approvals for agencies under his supervision, TheCable can report. Under the laws setting up the agencies, the president is empowered to give final approvals but TheCable understands that the provisions were not followed during the first term. It was learnt that the directive to follow due process was issued via a presidential memo on Monday. Currently, Mr Osinbajo is chairman of the governing boards of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), National Boundary Commission (NBC) and Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA). He is also chairman of board of directors…
PRESS RELEASE (Re: Buhari directs Osinbajo to seek approvals for agencies under him) Our attention has been drawn to a sensational report by The Cable which claims that President Muhammadu Buhari, has directed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to seek approvals for agencies under him. The report suggests, falsely, that agencies under the supervision of the Vice President do not normally comply with established rules where presidential approvals are required. This is obviously misleading and aims only to plant seeds of discord in the Presidency while creating an unnecessary national hysteria. The agencies in question are established by law and the…
A military court-martial for the troubled Nigerian Army major-general, Mr Hakeem Otiki, opened on a very personal note in Abuja on Tuesday, with the defence team labouring to cast the case as springing from a protracted resentment rather than merely another manifestation of endemic corruption in the military. The defence argued that a bitter rivalry was at the root of the scandal and the man appointed to lead the court-martial, Mr Lamidi Adeosun, a lieutenant-general, was not suited for purpose because of a conflict of interest. Although the defence did not elaborate on the cause of the rivalry, a senior…
