Several Nigerians including former chairman of National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, have critic‎ised the bill describing it as unnecessary. Such critics say there are already enough existing laws that only need to be implemented and that the bill was designed to muscle NGOs and civil society organisations, CSOs. Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Umar Jibril, has, however, defended the decision of the lawmakers to pass the new NGO bill. France and United Kingdom yesterday, separately denied any complicity on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) crisis, saying they were never contacted by Nigeria on the issue. Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed had on Wednesday referred to France as the financial headquarters of IPOB and complained that the British government allowed the group’s Radio Biafra to operate on its soil despite all the damages it is doing to Nigeria. The Presidency says that the rampaging Fulani herdsmen reported to have killed many and raped women as well as destroyed farmlands in some states in the country are not terrorists but mere criminals.
