INEC indicts ad hoc workers, politicians, others for electoral malpractices

Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday said that some wealthy politicians bought over some of the commission’s ad hoc workers and agents of other political parties to compromise the last general elections. He also alleged that politicians compromised traditional and religious leaders as well as community heads to persuade voters in their domains to vote in a particular way. Nigerians can’t complain of bad governance after selling their votes – Ex-Gov

A former governor of Delta State, Mr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has weighed in on the issue of vote-buying in Nigeria’s political process, saying the people tend to lose when they sell their votes to politicians during elections. Uduaghan acknowledged that the just concluded general election in Nigeria was characterised by vote buying. “When a people are bought with money, then they lose the right to complain,” Uduaghan said on Tuesday in a lecture he presented at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State. INEC fixes date for Bayelsa, Kogi gov elections

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed November 2, 2019 to conduct governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states. INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education and Information, Mr Festus Okoye, announced this in a statement on Tuesday. The announcement followed a meeting of the electoral body at its headquarters in Abuja, where it approved the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the elections.
