In an emotional statement in Downing St, she said she had "done my best" to honour the 2016 EU referendum result. It would remain a matter of "deep regret" that she had been unable to deliver Brexit, she added. Mrs May said she will continue to serve as prime minister while a Conservative leadership contest takes place. She will step down as Tory leader on 7 June and a leadership contest is due to begin…

President of Court of Appeal, Mrs Zainab Bulkachuwa, on Wednesday withdrew as a member of Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal. This followed allegations of likelihood of bias levelled against her by Peoples Democratic Party, and its presidential candidate, Mr Atiku Abubakar. Altthough, the five-man panel of the tribunal, in a unanimous ruling, dismissed the application on the grounds that the allegations of a likelihood of bias were not established; Bulkachuwa said she was withdrawing for “personal reasons.” In the application filed on May 16, the petitioners alleged that their petition challenging the victory of All Progressives Congress and its candidate, President…
Federal Government has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s comments imputing ethno-religious motive to Boko Haram and ISWAP as an attempt to divide the country. It said the “indiscreet”, “deeply offensive” and “patently divisive” comment were far below the status of an elder statesman. In a statement issued in Abuja, yesterday, Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, said it was tragic that a man who fought to keep Nigeria one is pushing to exploit the country’s fault lines to divide it in the twilight of his life. Obasanjo had during the second session of the Synod of Cathedral Church…
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tuesday, accused national leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Bola Tinubu of hauling insults on the party (PDP) in a bid to curry political relevance. This is even as the party noted that by travelling to Mecca, at this Ramadan period, just to meet President Muhammadu Buhari and “engage in gossips, invectives and diatribes against PDP, Tinubu has further demonstrated that he has nothing to offer towards the development of our nation.” In a statement issued by the party’s spokesman, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP chided the former Lagos State governor for travelling to Saudi Arabia…

Mr Ajimobi had in 2016 slashed the subventions to run the institutions by about 75 per cent, citing dwindling revenues. For example, The Polytechnic, Ibadan which used to get about N235 million monthly from the state government started receiving about N45 million. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the Facebook revelation detailing the devious manipulations and engineering of disinformation in the 2019 general election by President Muhammadu Buhari’s handlers and All Progressives Congress (APC), has further exposed them as schemers and real enemies of Nigeria’s democracy and national cohesion. It said that indeed, Buhari Presidency and APC should hide their faces in shame as Nigerians have seen that their professed sanctimony and ‘holier-than-thou’ claims are mere masquerading. The party, in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the ruling party, which engaged in manipulation to…
Australia’s ruling conservative coalition won a surprise victory in the country’s general election on Saturday, defying opinion polls that had tipped the center-left opposition party to oust it from power and promising an end to the revolving door of national leaders. “I have always believed in miracles,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison told a jubilant Sydney crowd. He compared his Liberal Party’s victory for a third three-year term to the births of his daughters, Abbey, 11, and Lily, 9, who were conceived naturally after 14 years of in vitro fertilization had failed. His wife, Jenny Morrison, suffered endometriosis. “I’m standing with…
