Wife replaces late husband in Cross River Assembly

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Cross River State on Monday issued a Certificate of Return to Mrs Stella Nkoro of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of November 17 bye-election into Ikom II State Constituency. State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Frankland Briyai, said Nkoro was the only candidate that stood for the election and was, therefore, declared winner. The seat became vacant following the death of Mrs Nkoro’s husband, Simon Nkoro, last August. West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP) Nigeria has launched Online National Early Warning System (NEWS) Platform and ArcGIS 360 mobile application as part of measures to prevent violence and other threats to the 2019 general elections. 2018 party primaries among the worst in Nigeria – INEC

Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr Mahmood Yakubu, has said that primaries conducted by the various political parties ahead of 2019 elections are some of the “most acrimonious” in the nation’s history.
