Lawlessness in Edo as 9 lawmakers ‘elect’ Speaker, excluding 16 colleagues

In what could be described as a coup, nine Edo State House of Assembly members met on Monday night and elected Messers Frank Okiye and Yekini Idiaye as speaker and deputy speaker respectively during the inauguration of the House presided over by the Clerk, Mr Audu Yahaya Omogbai. APC committee recommends expulsion of Ex-Zamfara gov, national deputy chair from party

The five-member Disciplinary Committee set up by All Progressives Congress (APC) has received a report and evidence of alleged anti-party activities against its Deputy National Chairman (North), Mr Lawal Shuaibu. Zamfara State Executive Committee of APC submitted the report to the committee on Tuesday in Abuja. Reps threaten legal action over allegations of vote buying by Gbajabiamila

One week after emergence of Mr Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker of House of Representatives, crisis is already brewing over allegations of vote-buying. 91 political parties to remain as INEC says it lacks power to deregister

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it lacked the constitutional power to deregister any of the existing 91 political parties in the country. INEC Federal Commissioner in charge of Nasarawa, Kogi and Kwara States, Mr Muhammed Haruna, made this known on Monday in Lokoja while declaring open a post-election review meeting on the last general elections.
