U.S. President Donald Trump received a letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un asking for a second meeting and the White House is already looking at scheduling one, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said on Monday. The two leaders have been discussing North Korea’s nuclear programme since their June 12 summit, which has been criticized for being short on concrete details about how and whether Kim is willing to give up on a nuclear weapons programme that threatens the United States. The timing of a second Trump-Kim meeting was unclear. The sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in…
North Korea held a major military parade and revived its iconic mass games to celebrate its 70th anniversary, but in keeping with leader Kim Jong Un’s new policies the emphasis was firmly on building up the economy, not on nuclear weapons. The North rolled out some of its latest tanks and marched its best-trained goose-stepping units in Sunday’s parade but held back its most advanced missiles and devoted nearly half of the event to civilian efforts to build the domestic economy. It also brought the mass games back after a five-year hiatus. The games are a grand spectacle that features…

Paris Club refund is a partial settlement of long-standing claims by state governments relating to over-deductions from their Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) payments for external debt service between 1995 and 2002. Three tranches had been released earlier to all the states, with the…
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State says the incessant attacks by suspected herdsmen on farmers and residents of the state have cost the state about N400bn in human, material and agricultural losses. He said apart from leading to the displacement of thousands of residents of the state, the attacks could also lead to famine, hunger and frustration among the people. In an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, Mr Ortom said, “It is an unfortunate development and we have lost so much. I’ve told my team to check the impact, and from an interim report that was submitted to me, we…
