Mr Wale Aboderin, Chairman of Punch Newspaper, has died. He died at 6.05 a.m. on Wednesday after a heart surgery at First Cardiology Consultants, Ikoyi, Lagos. Aboderin, until his death, was also Chairman of Punch Commercial Printing Limited and Lukahed Properties Limited. He attended Government College, Ibadan, Oyo State and trained as a pilot in United States. Aboderin was a sports enthusiast and philanthropist. Benue Assembly outlaws same sex marriage

Benue House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a Bill to prohibit marriage contract between persons of same sex in the state. Cited as Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Law, 2018, the bill was passed at plenary after a clause by clause consideration by Committee of the whole presided by the Speaker, Mr Terkimbi Ikyange. Same sex marriage or sexual relationship is already outlawed in Nigeria. A federal law passed in 2014 punishes the crime with 14 years in jail. Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has appointed Mrs Margaret Omosule as the 12th Registrar and Secretary to Governing Council of the university. Anti-corruption group Transparency International (TI) Monday revealed that the Muhammadu Buhari administration has in the run-up to elections expanded the use of opaque $670 million-a-year funds that fuel graft. The funds, known as “security votes”, are a relic of military rule, mainly disbursed in hard cash and nominally released for dealing with unexpected security issues, said the anti-corruption watchdog. Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday announced that the Direct Entry (DE) application, which began in December 2017, would close on June 4. The Board’s Head of Media, Mr Fabian Benjamin, made the announcement in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja. UI gets new deputy vice chancellor

Senate of University of Ibadan has elected Mr Kayode Adebowale of Department of Chemistry as new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the institution. A statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan by the institution’s Director of Public Communication, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, said the election held on Monday was well contested. The statement said that Adebowale defeated another professor, Mr Emmanuel Salako of Department of Animal Science.
