Senate on Wednesday considered a bill that seeks to prohibit payment and receipt of ransom for the release of any person kidnapped, imprisoned or wrongfully confined. According to the bill, Nigerians who pay ransom to kidnappers and kidnappers who receive ransom risk 15 years imprisonment. Kaduna state Government says bandits have killed eight residents and razed buildings in Chikun Local Government Area of the state. The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made the announcement in a statement he issued on Wednesday in Kaduna. Two die in Kwara as Nupe, Fulani clash

Two persons are feared dead in a clash between Nupe and Fulani in Kwara state. Many others were injured in the clash among youths in Kpada village in the Edu local hovernment area of Kwara state. It was gathered the clash occurred around 9pm on Monday following an attack on a Fulani settlement in the area. Bandits, on Monday, killed two soldiers and abducted a Chinese in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State. It was learnt that the bandits attacked the Libale community in Nasko, but met with stiff military resistance. This resulted in the exchange of fire between the bandits and the soldiers. Gunmen have abducted a judge at a Sharia Court in Bauren Zakat village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. Witnesses said the attackers broke into the court around 3pm on Tuesday and abducted the judge identified as Husaini Sama’ila. The court was relocated to Safana due to security reasons. Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested immediate past governor of Kwara, Abdulfatah Ahmed, for questioning. Spokesperson for the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed this yesterday. Uwujaren gave no further information on reasons for the invitation. Two police officers were killed on Monday when some gunmen attacked yet another police station in Abia State, Nigeria’s South-east. The station – the Ubakala Divisional Police Station in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state – was also set ablaze in the attack which occurred in the early hours of the day. Gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have killed three policemen during an attack on Nsukwa Police Divisional Headquarters, Aniocha South LGA, Delta State.
