South African President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, on Wednesday explained that Nigerians were not deliberately being targeted to be killed in his country. Ramaphosa gave his view on the troubling issue when he paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja. Xenophobic attacks have been going on in South Africa for over a decade with many Nigerians caught in the attacks. No fewer than 117 Nigerians have been killed in South Africa since February 2016. Though there have been interventions by Nigerian Mission in South Africa, these killings have persisted. In February, spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tope Elias-Fatile,…

Under fire for his warm embrace of Russia's Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump jolted NATO summit Wednesday by turning a spotlight on Germany's ties to Russia and openly questioning the value of the military alliance that has defined American foreign policy for decades. Trump declared that a joint natural gas pipeline venture with Moscow has left Angela Merkel's government "totally controlled" and "captive to Russia." So, in a stroke, he shifted attention away from his own ties to the Kremlin just days before he meets one-on-one with Putin. With scorching language, the president questioned the necessity of the alliance that…

A former Head of State, Mr Yakubu Gowon, says it is unfair to blame President Muhammadu Buhari for the incessant killings in the conflict between farmers and herders in some parts of Nigeria. Governor of Sokoto State, Mr Aminu Tambuwal, says killings of policemen by criminals have strengthened the argument that the nation’s security architecture needed to be overhauled. The governor described as worrisome a situation where policemen, who had the constitutional duty of protecting citizens, were themselves being killed by criminals. According to him, the pervading insecurity in the country is blamable on failed leadership. In a statement personally signed by him on Tuesday, Tambuwal recalled that only last week seven policemen were gunned down in Abuja with their arms taken away by the assailants. This, he noted, came only weeks after…
