Twitter Inc suspended more than one million accounts a day in recent months to reduce the flow of misinformation on the platform, the Washington Post reported. Twitter and other social media platforms such as Facebook Inc have been under scrutiny by U.S. lawmakers and international regulators for doing too little to prevent the spread of false content. The companies have been taking steps such as deleting user accounts, introducing updates and actively monitoring content to help users avoid being a victim to fake content. Twitter suspended more than 70 million accounts in May and June, and the pace has continued…
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said claims that being a Fulani, he must be encouraging the killings being perpetrated by armed herdsmen in parts of the country seemed to him that there was no limit to the evil in the minds of men. He wondered how anyone in their right minds would suggest that he, who emerged as President with substantial votes from affected areas, would do any harm to the same people who voted for him. Buhari said this while receiving members of Christian Association of Nigeria from the 19 northern states and Abuja at Presidential Villa, Abuja. The…

Afenifere Oyo says 'no' to cattle ranches

Funmi Olaitan, Ibadan Oyo State chapter of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government not to use public fund to create cattle ranches because of the inherent danger such a move portends. The group in a press release issued in Ibadan and signed its Chairman, Mr Gbola Adetunji and acting Publicity Secretary, Mr Jare Ajayi, said cattle ranching belongs in the realm of 'private business'. "Why then should enormous public fund be devoted to establishing and promoting something that will be beneficial to some private individuals and endanger the lives of thousands, if not million…
Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday declared the country’s security system a “failed architecture” and backed the call for the establishment of state police to contain the escalating killings by herdsmen across many states. The federal lawmakers’ decision to grant the request of many prominent Nigerians, including governors, for state police is hinged on the continued killings in the country and the inability of the security agencies to end incessant violence and murders. The two chambers of the National Assembly have, therefore, agreed to amend the constitution to achieve this objective. To achieve the state police structure, the House…
