The three Presidential candidates who attended the debate organised by Nigeria Elections Debate Group and Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, on Saturday took turns lambasting President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party for shunning the debate. A former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Kingsley Moghalu of Young Progressives Party; a former Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili of Allied Peoples Congress of Nigeria; and motivational speaker, Mr. Fela Durotoye of Alliance for New Nigeria, described Buhari and Atiku as old men who lacked the ability to answer questions. A large crowd overwhelmed security at the venue of President Muhammadu Buhari’s election campaign in Jos on Saturday, forcing the president to leave the venue without giving a speech. After arriving Rwang Pam stadium, it took the president almost 30 minutes to reach his seat as security personnel pushed back crowd and struggled to make way. Later, the crowd, believed to be mostly supporters of All Progressives Congress, surged toward the podium while some climbed the top of vehicles in the entourage of Mr Buhari. As security personnel battled unsuccessfully to push the crowd back, Buhari left the venue of…

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday made some embarrassing blunders in his remarks in Warri, Delta State when he presented his party’s flag to Mr Great Ogboru, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state. Mr Buhari was in Delta State to campaign for re-election. Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of APC, gave APC flag to Buhari for the president to hand over to Ogboru, as governorship candidate and leader of the party’s electioneering campaign in the state. “I am handing over this flag of honour to our presidential candidate,” Buhari said erroneously, as he was about to perform the brief…
Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday reiterated his plan to privatise Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) if elected on February 16. Mr Abubakar also promised to double the size of the Nigerian economy. Reuters reported Wednesday that Mr Abubakar, a businessman who served as vice president to former president Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007, said he would double the size of Nigeria’s economy to $900 billion by 2025. The former vice president said this at a meeting with business leaders in Lagos. “I am committed to privatising NNPC,” Abubakar was quoted as saying.…
National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, urged members of opposition parties to join APC so that their sins could be forgiven. He spoke at APC rally in Benin, Edo State capital, on Thursday while receiving some members of Peoples Democratic Party into APC during the rally. He said, “We have some PDP defectors. They are, Henry Tenebe, Iluobe….Iluobe means I have done something wrong. Yes, once you join APC, your sins are forgiven.” Oshiomhole advised the people to vote for the President and all APC candidates at the polls. Punch
In order to curb the spread of fake news during the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria, Facebook has said only advertisers located in Nigeria would be allowed to run political advertisements on the social media site, says a news report published by Reuters. It has become an unwholesome practice, globally, to see groups with vested interests try to influence elections in different countries, through fake news targeting potential voters. There were reports last year of how a London-based data mining and analytic firm, SCL, which is the parent company of Cambridge Analytica, tried to rig the 2015 Nigerian presidential election…
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says he is feeling sad over trial of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Mr Walter Onnoghen, on allegations of false and non-asset declarations. Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) had scheduled January 14 for the arraignment of CJN. However, the process was stalled as CJN failed to appear before CCT; and a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja also ordered CCT to halt proceedings. Mr Osinbajo, who spoke at 2019 Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) conference on Wednesday in Abuja, said that President Muhammadu Buhari had no prior knowledge of the arraignment. The theme of the…
A former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, says by saying President Muhammadu Buhari had no prior knowledge of the trial of Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen by Code of Conduct Tribunal for non-declaration of assets, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has made it clear that the president is not in charge of anything. Fayose, in a statement yesterday by his media aide, Mr Lere Olayinka, said: “It should now be clear to Nigerians that Mr Buhari is not in charge of anything. He might not even be in charge of his existence, not to talk of being conscious…
British Prime Minister Theresa May survived a no-confidence vote in Parliament on Wednesday to remain in office — but saw more of her power ebb away as she battled to keep Brexit on track after lawmakers demolished her European Union divorce deal. May won a narrow victory, 325 votes to 306 votes, on an opposition motion seeking to topple her government and trigger a general election. Now it’s back to Brexit, where May is caught between the rock of her own negotiating red lines and the hard place of a Parliament that wants to force a radical change of course.…
