Aba residents react to Kalu’s 12-year prison sentence

Some Aba residents in Abia state have lauded the 12-year jail term handed down to ex-Governor Orji Kalu by a Federal High Court in Lagos. Mr Muhammed Idris convicted Mr Kalu on 39 counts of N7.2 billion fraud and money laundering preferred against him by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Pirates kidnap 19 crew members from Greek tanker off Nigeria

Pirates have kidnapped 19 crew members from a crude oil tanker off Nigeria in an area where acts of piracy are on the rise, an official with the ship’s operator said on Thursday. The loaded vessel, the Nave Constellation, was attacked 77 nautical miles off Bonny Island on Tuesday and 18 Indians and one Turk from the crew were seized, the official said. Ex-gov, serving senator, Orji Kalu sentenced to 12 years in jail for fraud

A Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, on Thursday, sentenced a serving senator and ex-governor of Abia State, Mr Orji Kalu, to 12 years in prison for N7.65 billion fraud. Mr Mohammed Idris who delivered the sentence had earlier declared him guilty of the charge in the case that had been on for 12 years. Court orders forfeiture of Saraki’s Ilorin houses to FG

Mr Rilwan Aikawa has ordered the temporary forfeiture of Saraki’s two properties designated as Plots No. 10 and No. 11 Abdulkadir Road, GRA, Ilorin, Kwara State. Canadian authorities have commenced efforts to execute a corresponding arrest warrant issued for a Nigerian businessman accused of fraud in the United States. A convicted internet fraudster has been placed under investigation in Nigeria for allegedly masterminding a "mega scam" from a maximum-security prison worth at least $1m (N360 million).
