Benue State Government says it has arrested 400 herdsmen for flouting the state’s anti-open grazing law. The state government also seized over 600 cows belonging to herdsmen. Governor Samuel Ortom, who revealed these in Makurdi on Friday, ordered livestock guards to impound any cows seen openly grazing in any part of the state. Ortom gave the instructions while inspecting impounded cows at the quarantine unit of the state Ministry of Agriculture. Mr Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced a former spokesperson of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Olisa Metuh, to 7 years in prison for laundering N400 million. National Examinations Council (NECO) has dismissed 19 of its workers for allegedly forging their certificates. Their dismissal was approved by the council’s Governing Board after approving report of a Staff Certificate Verification Committee it set up at its 52nd regular meeting. NECO’s Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Mr Azeez Sani, announced this in a statement yesterday in Abuja. Chief Judge of Ogun State, Mrs Mosunmola Dipeolu, has released 21 inmates from the five Nigeria Correctional Service across the the state. Release of the inmates was part of the quarterly jail delivery exercise of the Chief Judge in accordance with Section 1(1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Special Provision Act. A former lecturer at University of Lagos, Mr Azeez Baruwa, has been sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment by Lagos State High Court for raping an 18-year-old admission seeker.
