At least 30 persons, mostly travellers, stranded outside the military-controlled entrance gate of Maiduguri were on Sunday night killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents. Gunmen on Friday night stormed the residence of a former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Mr Abdullahi Mustapha, and took away his daughter. Confirming the incident yesterday, Mustapha said the gunmen came to the house around 11:20 pm. “Yes, it is true. They shot one security man, we don’t know who they are, as they have not contacted us yet,” he said. Supreme Court yesterday affirmed judgment of the Court of Appeal which sentenced a former Governor of Taraba State, Mr Jolly Nyame, to 12 years imprisonment for corruption. Police have announced a combat operation that led to the killing of 250 alleged terrorists in Kaduna State. The daring operation in Kuduru woodlands, in the besieged Birnin Gwari area, came on Wednesday morning, lasting for several hours, chief police spokesperson Mr Frank Mba said in a statement. Several large-sized brown paper wrappings containing a stash of foreign currency totalling $8.06 million was intercepted on the tarmac of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigerian Customs Service said Tuesday. Mr Hameed Ali, customs comptroller-general, said at a press conference in Lagos that the money was found in a vehicle belonging to Nigeria Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO). Number of identified victims of modern slavery and human trafficking in London has risen more than tenfold in the space of five years, according to a new report which analyzes police data.
