Bandits back in Zamfara, kill 14

Gunmen killed 14 persons in an attack on Karaye village in Gwalli district in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Residents said dozens of armed men arrived the village on motorcycles around 9pm, firing at residents. They also burnt houses, shops, grain silos and other properties in the community. Rampaging gunmen riding camels shot and killed six local hunters in an attack on a farming communities of Aljannaru in Song, northern Adamawa State, fleeing residents and security sources said on Sunday. NECO sacks 70 Staff over certificate forgery

Management of National Examinations Council (NECO) has approved dismissal of 70 staff from service for certificate forgery. These dismissals were sequel to a report submitted by a Management Committee constituted to verify certificate of staff, a statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations Division, Mr Azeez Sani said. “The certificate Verification Committee carried out its assignment diligently by inviting all staff with questionable credentials to appear before it, during which some staff actually attested that their certificates were fake, ” he said. A mother of four children identified as Hassana Saleh has been rescued from a room where she was holed-up in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna metropolis. Hassana was locked-up by her elder brother, Mr Lawal Saleh, in the room where she has been urinating, defecating and eating for two years. A government gazette just published has stripped Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission(ICPC) of the powers to seize assets of people being investigated. According to the gazette, Vol. 106, No 163, entitled, “Asset Tracing, Recovery and Management Regulation 2019’’, dated Oct. 29, 2019 such powers have now been transferred to Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). A group of armed herdsmen injured an officer during an attack on a police convoy in Kirikassamma local government area of Jigawa State. Police were sent in after the residents reported that some herdsmen had invaded their communities and were ravaging farms and stealing crops in the area. Police officers from Oyo State Police Command on Monday raided an Islamic school located at Ojoo area of Ibadan, the state capital and freed 259 ‘students’ who were being maltreated, an official has said. The school is operated by Mr Ismail Olore. Federal Government has raised the alarm over the movement of unrepentant bandits from Zamfara and Katsina states to neighbouring states and beyond.
