FG shielding military officials, others who committ atrocities - Amnesty International

A foremost human rights group, Amnesty International, on Monday called on International Criminal Court (ICC) to urgently investigate the federal government over alleged failures to sanction military commanders and terrorists suspected of grievous human rights abuses in the Boko Haram war. “The Nigerian government is unwilling and unable to meet its obligations as a member of ICC to investigate and prosecute both Boko Haram and Nigerian military,” the group said in its reaction to fresh findings published by ICC that reaffirmed a widespread lack of accountability on the Nigerian government. FAAN withdraws services from MMA2, Warri, Gombe airports

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has notified airlines of the withdrawal of its services to Osubi Airport, Warri, Gombe Airport and Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MMA2) over alleged indebtedness. Migrants remittances to developing countries triple global aid - UN

Statistics released by the UN on Sunday indicate that migrants from developing countries sent home $466 billion in 2017, tripling the amount sent globally for development aid. The world body released the figure on the eve of the two-day Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, which opens in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday. Buhari appoints new permanent secretaries

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved appointment of nine new permanent secretaries in Federal Civil Service. The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita. Governing council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has announced appointment of a new vice-chancellor and two other principal officers. Kano, Katsina account for 30% of malnourished children in Nigeria - UNICEF

United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), on Thursday, confirmed that Kano and Katsina states account for over 30 percent of children affected with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in Nigeria. Nigeria has contributed more money to Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) than 13 other Members states put together in the last 12 years, statistics have shown. Prepare for long strike action, ASUU tells members

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday charged striking members of the union in public universities across the country to prepare for long industrial action. President of the union, Mr Biodun Ogunyemi enjoined ASUU members “to be on the watch and prepare for a long drawn out struggle to salvage the University System”.
