Finally, Atiku secures US visa

The coast is now clear for presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Atiku Abubakar, to visit to the United States following issuance of a visa to him. It was learnt that Abubakar had received the visa to enable him travel to USA, which he last visited about 13 years ago. Abubakar on Tuesday appeared at the US Embassy in Abuja, where he was interviewed and his fingerprints taken. OPC founder, Frederick Fasehun, dies at 83

Founder of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Mr Frederick Fasehun, is dead. He was aged 83. Senior Special Adviser on Media, to Fasehun, Mr Adeoye Jolaosho, disclosed this to journalists in Lagos yesterday. He said the OPC chieftain died at about 1am on Saturday at intensive care unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja (LASUTH). “Baba took ill on Wednesday and was rushed to the intensive care unit of LASUTH. “He died early hours of today. Federal government has deployed drones in the fight against insurgency in Northeast part of Nigeria. The deployment followed recent killing of some Nigerian soldiers fighting the insurgency in the region. The soldiers were ambushed by the terrorist group, Boko Haram. Federal Government has directed vice-chancellors of striking public universities across the country to enforce “no-work-no-pay” rule on the striking lecturers. The directive to implement the “no work, no pay” policy was communicated to the universities in a memo sent by Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) to vice-chancellors. Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had on November 4 declared indefinite, nationwide strike over non-implementation of previous agreements by federal government and demand for increased university funding. A sudden rise in Boko Haram attacks over the last three months has forced the Nigerian military to fine-tune its counter-insurgency operations in the war-ravaged North-east, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Mr Tukur Buratai said on Wednesday.
