After decamping from APC to PDP, Ondo deputy gov moves to another party

Deputy governor of Ondo State, Mr Agboola Ajayi, has announced his resignation from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and formally joined Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). This development is to further his governorship aspiration, he said. Ajayi announced his defection on Monday on Twitter. President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu of All Progressives Congress for the September 19 governorship election in Edo State, the party’s caretaker committee chairman, Mr Mala Buni, has said. US Embassy expresses concern over Edo political crisis

INEC to publish results from polling units electronically

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched a portal where election results from polling units can be viewed in real time. In a statement on Thursday, INEC spokesman, Mr Festus Okoye, said the portal will “strengthen the transparency in the election result management system.” He said the use of the portal will start with Nasarawa central state constituency election after which it will also be deployed in Edo and Ondo governorship polls. The only lawmaker elected on the platform of Zenith Labour Party in the Ondo House of Assembly, Mr Leonard Akinribido, has been suspended. Akinribido, representing Ondo West Constituency 1, was suspended over gross misconduct and use of vulgar words against the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun in the Chamber and on WhatsApp platform. End of road for Melaye as Appeal Court dismisses suit against Adeyemi

Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed the appeal by Mr Dino Melaye, challenging election of Mr Smart Adeyemi as winner of the last election in Kogi West Senatorial District. A three-man panel of the court, led by Mr Ibrahim Saulawa, unanimously resolved all seven issues, identified for determination, against the appellant (Melaye). PDP releases schedule for party congresses from wards upward

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun preparations for 2023 general election, particularly the presidential election, and set dates for the conduct of congresses across the country. Former commissioner for justice and attorney-general of Ondo state, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, has clinched the ticket of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the October 10 election. Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Monday announced sack of more than 1,000 aides for non-performance.
