A presidential election model that incorrectly predicted just one election outcome since 1980 shows President Trump winning reelection in 2020. Moody’s Analytics released the results of its 2020 prediction model on Tuesday showing Trump winning with 332 electoral votes, an increase over his 2016 win of 306, if voter turnout remains relatively close to the historical average. The Moody's Analytics model takes into account political dynamics but weighs heavily on economic factors. If the economy remains strong and voter turnout meets the historical average or is low, the model shows Trump winning handily. In the event that voter turnout hits…
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Senate to approve the issuance of N10.069 billion promissory note to Kogi State government for projects done on behalf of the Federal Government. His request was conveyed in a letter to Senate President, Mr Ahmad Lawan, which was read during plenary on Tuesday. The request is premised on the promissory note programme and bond issuance to certain inherited local debts and contractual obligations of the Federal Government. A promissory note is a debt instrument which one party promises in writing to pay a determinate sum of money to the other, either at a fixed or…
All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole on Sunday accused Edo State government of orchestrating Saturday’s siege to his Benin home. There is a frosty relationship between the party chair, who is the immediate past governor and his ‘godson’ - Governor Godwin Obaseki - ostensibly over the governor’s second term bid. Explaining the Saturday night ‘attack’ on the chairman’s home, Oshiomhole’s spokesman, Mr Simon Ebegbulem told our correspondent on phone: “The National Chairman was in Benin on Saturday to attend a birthday party. While he was still at the party around 8pm, the state government sent thugs to his…
Nigeria can become a stronger and more prosperous nation if states have more powers, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Mr Osinbajo stated this while speaking at the 59th Independence Anniversary Lecture at the Island Club, Lagos, on Friday. The vice president, who titled his lecture “the whole is only as great as the sum of its parts,” said Nigeria’s population and diverse ethnic groups has necessitated that states in the country be strengthened to enable them contribute more to national productivity and development. Osinbajo stated that this can be achieved with “stronger, more autonomous States that are able to…
Founder and Presiding Bishop of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Ibadan, Mr Wale Oke, has said Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is not corrupt. While receiving Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, led by Jadesola Ajibola, at Covenant Arena, his church in the Agodi area of Ibadan, Oke noted that when news of the N90bn illegal funding went viral, some christian elders visited Osinbajo. He said, “The VP did not only deny involving himself in any sleaze, but used the opportunity to inform us that some cabals were behind the allegations.” The renowned cleric noted that Nigerians must learn to reward committed,…
Latter Rain Church Senior Pastor, Mr Tunde Bakare broke his silence on a trending video of him claiming to be God-ordained successor to President Muhammadu Buhari. The cleric said he was only expressing his aspiration to lead the country which was within his rights as provided by the Constitution. Clarifying the “misconceptions” surrounding the video on his aspiration to become the 16th president, the lawyer-turned cleric said that the video was about one year and seven months old and was merely an expression of his aspiration. He said what God showed him was his personal business and that he had…

Amid Democratic finger-pointing over allegations that President Donald Trump sought to drag Ukraine into America’s domestic politics, a letter from 2018 has emerged that shows Democrats doing exactly that. The letter from Sens. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, Dick Durbin of Illinois and Patrick Leahy of Vermont was cited Wednesday in a column by Marc Thiessen in The Washington Post. The letter was an effort to persuade Ukraine to supply information that Democrats wanted for the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in 2016. The May 4, 2018, letter did…
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Mr Atiku Abubakar, have made good their vow to exercise their right of appeal, as they formally approached Supreme Court to set aside judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. The tribunal had dismissed their petition against the result of the February 23, 2019, election that returned President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office. The appeal, predicated on 66 grounds, claims judgment of the tribunal occasioned a miscarriage of justice. But in a swift reaction, All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the decision of PDP and Atiku to go to the…
Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday that House Democrats would launch an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, an extraordinary step that came in the wake of a whistleblower complaint that Trump sought to pressure Ukraine to investigate a political rival for personal gain. “The President must be held accountable,” Pelosi said in a televised statement outside her office on Capitol Hill, against a pointed backdrop of six American flags. “No one is above the law.” After months of wavering, House Democrats have inched closer and closer in recent days to beginning a full-fledged impeachment process. On Tuesday the floodgates finally…
