Osun state house of assembly says the state will continue to be referred to as ‘state of Osun’ as against ‘Osun state’. The development was announced on Monday in a statement by Kunle Akande, the house committee chairman on media and publicity. In his inauguration speech on Sunday, Ademola Adeleke, the Osun governor, ordered an immediate reversal to ‘Osun state’ instead of ‘state of Osun’, which was adopted during the Rauf Aregbesola administration. Speaking on the development, the Osun assembly said the adoption of ‘state of Osun’ is “a matter of law”. “The usage of the state anthem, crest and…
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the nomination of Bashir Sheriff Machina as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North Senatorial District. A three-member panel led by Monica Dagban-Mensah on Monday upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court in Damaturu, which had earlier upheld Machina’s nomination. The appellate court observed that the APC argued its case and that of Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, in its brief, but failed to make him a co-appellant, instead of being the 2nd respondent. Lawan, who lost the APC presidential primary to a former Lagos governor, Bola…
The Court of Appeal in Ibadan, Oyo State has reinstated Oladipupo Adebutu as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State. The court also reinstated the three senatorial candidates, nine House of Representatives and 26 House of Assembly candidates, who all emerged from the party’s primaries. It would be recalled that O. O. Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, had on September 27, declared the primaries that produced Adebutu and other PDP candidates invalid. The court ordered the party to conduct fresh primaries within 14 days. Adebutu and the PDP, however,…
The newly inaugurated Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has frozen all government accounts in the state. Adeleke directed this in his first executive order upon inauguration on Sunday. Adeleke, in his speech delivered at the inauguration, alleged that the erstwhile governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, carried out some actions “maliciously” after he (Adeleke) won the July 16 governorship election, including “hurried” employments without provisions to sustain them. He claimed these actions were roadblocks channeled at making things difficult for his administration. Adeleke also reversed the state name from ‘State of Osun’ to ‘Osun State’, saying the former was…
Immediate past Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola has disclosed that his administration is leaving behind for the incoming government a total sum of N14billion cash in the State’s coffers. Oyetola also revealed that his government had successfully paid N97billion from the total debt inherited in 2018 when he assumed office. He disclosed that his administration didn’t borrow a dime anywhere in the world to finance the economy of the State, saying he successfully kept faith and maintained fidelity with his electoral promises since the assumption of office. The former Governor made the disclosure in his farewell statement to the…

The top government officials have occupied the positions of Coordinating Directors of their various ministries awaiting their appointment into the position of PS. Head of Service, Festus Olowogboyega Oyebade, in a memo announced the appointment of the new Permanent Secretary on behalf of the state government. But the Governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke, threatened to sack them when he takes over two days from now. Adeleke, who spoke through his media aide, Olawale Rasheed, warned the officials that they…
A policy think tank, Nextier, has revealed in a survey that the South-West has been recognised as the battleground for major presidential contenders from various parties in the 2023 presidential election. The independent survey was carried out among registered voters in rural communities across the country. The study, which our correspondent saw on Monday, was a face-to-face poll of registered voters in rural communities across 12 Nigerian states. Rural communities were characterised in the study as local government areas with no tertiary educational institutions. The survey team conducted the polls in two states in each of the six geopolitical zones…
Impeached Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Gboyega Aribisogan, has called on prominent indigenes of the state to intervene in the crisis rocking the state legislative house. Aribisogan, at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, particularly urged legal luminaries from the state to rise up and stop the political crisis in Ekiti over what he called external interference in the election of the speaker of the Assembly. It would be recalled that 17 out of the 25 members of the Assembly, on Monday, impeached Aribisogan and elected Olubunmi Adelugba as the new Speaker. The Assembly complex had…
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has officially endorsed Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2023 general elections. Ohanaeze said Obi represents “Nigerian conscience, moral probity, generational hope, redemption epiphany, and above all, the Igbo collective unconscious.” The Igbo body, which stated this in a statement on Sunday titled, ‘2023: On SMBLF Position We Stand,’ signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, noted that the Labour Party’s candidate had filled what could have been a sad gap if he had not been on the ballot. The statement said, “In the first place, going by the principles…
