Reacting to the results announced, Buhari said: “I congratulate Tinubu on his victory. Elected by the people, he is the best person for the job. I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power. “The election was Africa’s largest democratic exercise. In a region that has undergone backsliding and military coups in recent years, this election demonstrates democracy’s continued relevance and capability to deliver for the people it serves. “Within…
PRESS RELEASE We, Members of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) have over the years, and especially in the run-up to the 2023 Presidential election in Nigeria, insisted on an inclusive Nigeria that embraces all ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender and demographic groups and especially the youths of the country. The electoral commission, INEC, has declared Bola Tinubu, candidate of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, as the winner of Saturday’s presidential election. Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election. He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates, thus meeting the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner. He also scored over 25 per cent of the votes cast in 30 states, more than the 25 states constitutionally required. INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who announced the final results in the early hours of Wednesday in Abuja, said Atiku Abubakar of the PDP…
Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party have called for the resignation of the Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu. Both parties made the call at a joint press conference by their vice presidential candidates in Abuja on Tuesday. They also demanded the cancellation of the presidential election results announced by INEC in Abuja. However, in a swift response, INEC dismissed the calls, saying Yakubu would not resign and that aggrieved persons should channel their grievances according to the electoral laws. It would be recalled that agents of the PDP and the LP walked out of the national collation centre in…
All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, have filed a suit to restrain the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from stopping the collation of the presidential election results. The suit marked FHC/KN/CS/43/2023 was filed before the federal high court in Kano. At a media briefing earlier on Tuesday, the LP and PDP asked Mahmood Yakubu, chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to resign. The parties also demanded that the presidential election be conducted afresh, saying it was not free and “far from being fair or transparent”. In the suit, the APC,…

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the integrity of the presidential election has been compromised. Speaking on Monday at a media briefing in Abuja, Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, said some of the results have been “manipulated”. The opposition party accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of deliberate refusal to upload all election results from polling units to the result viewing portal. “It is very clear from the votes as cast at the polling units across the country that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar substantially defeated the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),…
Labour Party on Monday alleged that it was convinced that the processes leading to the results of the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections have been compromised. Akin Osuntokun, Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, said this at a news conference in Abuja. Osuntokun said this was because contrary to the publicly advertised guidelines for the conduct of the elections, INEC did not follow suit. “Consequently, we regret to state that we have lost confidence in the results being collated and being announced. “Nigerians have inundated us with calls and protests over INEC’s non-compliance with provisions of the…
Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) says the delay in providing logistics and failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) affected the efficiency of the election process in Nigeria. Nigeria held the presidential and national assembly elections on Saturday. Koroma, also the former president of the Republic of Sierra Leone, said other challenges such as violence and snatching of BVAS devices and ballot boxes caused the postponement of the elections in some states. “After careful…
