INEC declares Bola Tinubu winner of Nigeria’s presidential election

The electoral commission, INEC, has declared Bola Tinubu, candidate of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, as the winner of Saturday’s presidential election. Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election. He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates, thus meeting the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner. Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) says the delay in providing logistics and failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) affected the efficiency of the election process in Nigeria. The African Union election observation mission (AUEOM) has released its preliminary report on the conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections in Nigeria.
