The motorcycle bandits terrorising northern Nigeria

Motorcycle-riding armed bandits operating out of abandoned forest reserves are ransacking communities in Nigeria's north-west. The groups are the latest to join Nigeria's lucrative kidnap for ransom industry, and are quite brazen in their operations. In the last decade more than 8,000 people have been killed in the states of Kebbi, Sokoto, Niger and Zamfara, according to the International Crisis Group. US, two others demand extradition of 11 Nigerians for criminal offenses

Three countries, United States of America, India and Ghana, have written respectively to Federal Government requesting extradition of 11 Nigerians, a report has revealed. The cases for which the Nigerians are wanted in the foreign countries include money laundering, obtaining money under false pretences, fraud, as well as drug-related offences. The report, titled ‘Ministerial Performance Report May 2019 – May 2020’ was prepared by Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami and presented to Federal Executive Council. Court jails hackers for N2.55bn fraud, orders restitution to bank

Lagos State High Court in Igbosere on Friday convicted and jailed two hackers, who defrauded Union Bank to the tune of N2.55bn. The convicts, Abass Mohammed and Ibrahim Saidu Jogal, bagged one and three years’ imprisonment, respectively. Mr K.A. Jose, who pronounced the verdict, also ordered that a total of $464,000, a car and a landed property recovered from the convicts by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission be returned to the defrauded bank. Pirates kidnap nine in attack on oil vessel off Nigeria - Report

Pirates attacked an oil production vessel off Nigeria in the early hours of Thursday and kidnapped nine Nigerian nationals, the ship’s owner BW Offshore said. The Sendje Berge ship was undergoing maintenance when the attack happened, BW Offshore’s Chief Financial Officer Staale Andreassen said. Two killed, five abducted as gunmen attack Ebonyi community

Two persons have been killed and five abducted in Ekoli Edda community in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Police said gunmen from neighbouring Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State were behind the attack. The two border communities have been at war over a palm plantation on their border. After receiving N7.5m ransom, kidnappers kill medical doctor, son and friend

Boko Haram kills nine soldiers escorting civilian vehicles on Maiduguri highway

At least nine Nigerian soldiers were reported dead Saturday as suspected Boko Haram insurgents ambushed a military van escorting travellers from Maiduguri to Damboa town, witnesses and security sources said. Bandits kill another 15 in Zamfara, Katsina

Bandits have killed 15 people in Unguwar Yabo village of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State and Marar-Zamfarawa villlages, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State. Bank scams are increasing as more customers are adopting electronic means of payment since lockdown was introduced in the country to contain Covid-19 spread.
